Use Safari directly, not a browser tucked inside another app. Open Share, scroll down to Add to Home Screen, give it a name nobody will read anything into, and confirm.

In Chrome, open the menu and choose Add to Home screen. Certain builds label it Install, which sounds alarming and isn't — same bookmark, no store involved.

Type the address first
Enter our address by hand before creating the icon. Whatever destination the shortcut is born with is the one it keeps, so an icon made from an advert stays pointed there.

Sign in inside the icon
Most devices give the shortcut its own storage box, separate from your tabs, so signing in to one won't carry to the other. Removing the icon deletes an icon, nothing else.

An account that stayed open all week on a desktop may want a password again by the afternoon on a phone.
